Thurston Photo: After a long summer of working the daily grind, it was like a breath of fresh air to finally see some lines marching into our coastline. Being the first decent swell of the season there was a lot of anticipation in the air. It was great to see some familiar faces in in the water and even make some new connections, but the thing i enjoy most of all is shooting my brother, Agent Team Rider Glen Thurston.
Whenever the ocean turns on and their is mountains to tackle, Glen and myself team up to get the shot. As a surf photographer, Glens clean lines and ability perform in heavy conditions are very much appreciated when trying to line up a good photograph. This has been almost an art that we have been working together on for a number of years, growing up shooting together and progressing in our chosen fields has been one of the highlights of my career for sure.
There are always a lot of photo requests from riders after a big day of waves and shooting but nailing a good shot requires equal performance from the rider and the photographer. I come home with a lot more quality shots of Glen because he understands and has learnt how to choose the right waves, draw clean lines and line up for the shot. This is something that can only be achieved by a lot of time and practice in the water.
